Bengt Ronnie Peterson (Swedish pronunciation:[ˈrɔ̌nːɪˈpêtːɛˌʂɔn]; 14 February – 11 September ) was a Swedish racing driver, who competed in Formula One from to Nicknamed "Superswede",[a] Peterson twice finished runner-up in the Formula One World Drivers' Championship in and , and won 10 Grands Prix across nine seasons.

Peterson began his motor racing career in kart racing, traditionally the discipline where the majority of race drivers begin their careers in open-wheel racing. After winning a number of karting titles, including two Swedish titles in and , he moved on to Formula Three, where he won the Monaco Grand Prix Formula Three support race for the Grand Prix. Later that year he won the FIA European Formula 3 Championship and moved up into Formula One, racing for the March factory team. Peterson var son till konditorn Bengt Peterson och makan Maj Britt, född Pettersson. Han arbetade som bilmekaniker – och som maskinmontör – Ronnie genomförde sin värnplikt på Livgardets dragoner (K&#;1) år [2] Ronnies racingkarriär möjliggjordes av att fadern Bengt konstruerade tävlingsbilar åt Ronnie på fritiden hemma i garaget.[3]

Peterson debuterade som åring med gokart och tog under debutåret hem en andraplats i klass D under SM. Av de tio lopp han startade i vann han två och kom på pallen i ytterligare två lopp. I sin andra säsong vann Peterson SM i klass D. Av tolv lopp vann Peterson åtta och kom tvåa i ytterligare två.
