Nils Daniel Carl Bildt (born 15 July ) is a Swedish politician and diplomat who served as Prime Minister of Sweden from to He led the Moderate Party from to , appearing at its lead candidate in four general elections, before his appointment as Minister for Foreign Affairs under Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt from to Bildt first entered the Riksdag in , holding a seat until A member of the Bildt family, he is a great-great grandson of Baron Gillis Bildt, who was Prime Minister of Sweden from to [1]
Bildt had been noted internationally as a mediator in the Yugoslav wars, serving as the European Union's Special Envoy to the Former Yugoslavia from June , co-chairman of the Dayton Peace Conference in November and High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina from December to June , immediately after the Bosnian War. From to , he served as the United Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy for the Balkans. Since , Bildt also has been the World Health Organization's Special Envoy for the Access to COVID Tools Accelerator (ACT Accelerator).[2]

Carl Bildt föddes i Halmstad i Hallands län och växte upp där och senare på Östermalm i Stockholm. Han är son till byrådirektörDaniel Bildt (–)[2] och förbundssekreterare Kerstin Andersson-Alwå.[3][4] Hans enda syskon Nils Bildt föddes Bildt tillhör en uradlig ätt med rötter i norsk och dansk medeltid. Carl Bildt är sonson till överste Nils Bildt, sonsons son till general Knut Bildt och sonsons sonson till statsministern och riksmarskalken, friherreGillis Bildt.[5]
Bildt var gift – med Kerstin Zetterberg och – med Mia Bohman, dotter till den tidigare moderatledaren Gösta Bohman.[6] Sedan den 18 oktober[7] är han gift med Anna Maria Corazza Bildt. Han har tre barn: Gunnel (född ), Nils (född ) samt Gustaf (född ).
